The Hon Catherine King MP
Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government

Rob Mitchell MP

The Albanese Government will invest $15 million towards a new Community Wellbeing Hub in Seymour, boosting local educational, health and wellbeing priorities.

The funding is being delivered under Round 1 of the Growing Regions Program, which is providing around $207 million to fund 40 new local priority infrastructure projects across the country.

The project will address gap in new infrastructure following the 2022 Victorian Floods, by developing the Seymour Community Wellbeing Hub: an integrated health and community services facility.

The Hub is a multi-stage project led by Mitchell Shire Council aimed at delivering community-focused infrastructure and promoting diverse social inclusion within Seymour.

The Albanese Labor Government’s $15 million contribution to Stage One will help fund a library and learning facilities, multipurpose community spaces, an outdoor event area, consultation rooms, and a social enterprise café.

Round 2 of the Growing Regions Program will open later in 2024. The program is competitive with funding awarded on a merit basis.

Providing funding of between $500,000 and $15 million, the Growing Regions Program will support local government entities and incorporated not-for-profit organisations to deliver capital works projects in regional and rural Australia.

Quote attributable to Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Minister Catherine King:

“The Albanese Government is committed to investing in regional Australia to create jobs, build opportunity and unlock economic growth and productivity – making sure our regions remain great places to live, work and play.

“Our Growing Regions Program forms a key part of this commitment, by investing in critical community and economic infrastructure across regional and rural areas, in a fair and transparent way.

“I look forward to seeing the successful projects roll out across the nation, supporting employment, stimulating economies and strengthening communities.”

Quotes attributable to Senator for Victoria Jana Stewart:

“The Albanese Labor Government is supporting Seymour after the devasting recent floods, pitching in $15 million to make the long-awaited Seymour Community Hub a reality.

“I look forward to seeing the projects benefits flow as works get underway – from delivering local jobs during construction, to improving access to health and social services once completed.

“We know that the projects funded through the Growing Regions Program will help bring communities together. Whether it’s a sporting club or a community hub, these places are often the source of connection for people in our regional communities. They are part of what makes our regions so great, and it’s vital we continue to invest in them.

“Local voices are so important to understand community priorities, and I am proud that Rob Mitchell MP and I could be a voice for regional Victorians and the people of Seymour and its surrounds.”

Quotes attributable to Member for McEwen Rob Mitchell:

“I have long advocated for more services such as these across the Mitchell Shire because such community-focussed infrastructure has huge benefits for local and regional priorities,

“Anything that improves the health and wellbeing of our community is always a huge bonus and add to that a space that integrates such important services in one place is even better.”
