Overview of Role
Applications are invited for a full-time position of Electorate Officer – Community Campaigns Officer to join the Office of Senator Jana Stewart. The role is based in the Senator’s Electorate Office in Reservoir, VIC. Occasional travel across Victoria and to Canberra may be required.
This role would suit someone who is interested in community organising and engaging with diverse communities. The successful applicant will be a team player with strong written and interpersonal skills.
You would be joining a small, highly motivated team of people who are driven by their Labor values, and love what they do.
Main duties/responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with constituents, community representatives and other electorate offices.
- Proactively approach community engagement, campaign organising and strategic planning.
- Working across the team to ensure issues and key areas of interest to the Senator’s constituents – the people of Victoria – are represented through Senator Stewart’s work.
- Prepare high-quality briefing materials for the Senator, as well as record keeping, data entry, filing and other administrative tasks.
- Work outside of standard business hours and on weekends may be required.
- Travel to Canberra, across Victoria and elsewhere may be required.
Requirements, skills & experience
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Prior relevant work experience is highly desirable, as is relevant educational qualifications and experience in community engagement and organising.
- Highly motivated, be able to work proactively, independently and in a small team.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines, plan, organise and prioritise work under pressure.
- Demonstrated professional integrity and the ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Availability to work flexible hours and travel as required.
- A knowledge of government and previous experience in politics or parliamentary processes is desirable.
- A respectful demeanour when engaging with office staff and constituents.
- A current Driver’s License and car is highly desirable.
Employment conditions
The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2020-2023.
- A commencing salary of up to $76,910 will be negotiated depending on relevant skills and experience.
- An additional allowance in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work is available, as well as travel allowance for required overnight travel.
- Employer contribution of 15.4% superannuation is payable.
- Whole or partial reimbursement up to a maximum of $10,000 per financial year of tuition fees (including HELP or TAFE) may be available.
- A probationary period of three months will apply.
